What are surgical options for reshaping the butt?

As we age, skin loses its elasticity and gravity takes its toll, meaning that the bum can lose its youthful firmness. Some people are simply born with a flat or shapeless bottom. The buttock and thighs are also regions were fat deposits resistant to exercising and dieting are frequently accumulated. Depending on the nature of the problem we can make your bottom aesthetically pleasing using a number of methods including liposuction, fat transfer (lipofilling), buttock implants and lifting.

How is brazilian buttock lift (liposculpturing) performed?

In fat transfer (lipofilling) to the buttocks also dubbed “Brazilian Butt Lift” we harvest the fat with liposuction to augment the buttocks to a fuller and perkier shape. The advantage of lipofilling is that only your own natural fat tissue is used to enhance the buttocks and no foreign material is injected or inserted in your body. In the process we also sculpt the other parts of the body by permanently removing excess fat form the abdomen, waist, back, thighs or other areas with liposuction. The downside is that when transferring fat some will be reabsorbed. Therefore, the results are not completely predictable, and additional procedures may be necessary for optimal result. It is known that fat cells that remain viable after three months will be there permanently.

What is recovery after brazilian buttock lift?

After surgery, you will be fitted with a compression garment to control swelling and protect the operated areas. The garment should be worn for up to two weeks. You must not sit directly on your buttocks for the first 10 days. Almost all swelling and bruising is gone within four to six weeks and most people can return to work after the first two weeks, provided there is only a minimal amount of sitting. All normal activities may be resumed after four weeks.

How is buttock augmentation with implants performed?

Implants are often used in plastic surgery to shape the face, breast and the calves. Gluteal implants can improve the shape of the buttocks. Butt implants may be recommended for thin patients who do not have enough fat to harvest. The buttock implants are made out of solid silicone and have a natural and soft feel similar to a well-toned muscle. Buttock implants are available in round or oval shape and several sizes. The butt implant is usually inserted under or in the gluteus muscle. The incision is hidden in the midline between the buttocks. Unlike fat transplants which are to some extent reabsorbed by the body, the insertion of a buttock implant will produce a predictable and long-lasting enhancement. However, eventually many people want or need the implants to be removed. Following the removal buttock tissue might sag as it has been stretched out with implants. This may be corrected with classic buttock lift which leaves long scars in the upper buttock area.

What is recovery after buttock implant surgery?

After inserting an implant, the buttock region can be slightly painful for several days. Walking speeds the recovery by stretching the muscles which can become tight after surgery. The implants would cause quite a bit of discomfort, if placed on the sitting area. Even though, it is placed above this region, it is still in a sensitive area, and some patients may experience discomfort when sitting. Improperly placed implant can compress the sciatic nerve and cause pain radiating down the leg.

What is the difference between the traditional and brazilian buttock lift?

With classic buttock lift we can reshape the outer thighs and the buttock by reducing excess sagging and dimpled skin with loose tissue. It requires an incision along the entire top of the hip bone and inwards towards where the buttocks meet. The procedure is indicated for patients with excess sagging skin in the buttock and outer thigh area, most commonly after massive weight loss. Using current body sculpturing techniques excess tissue is not removed. Instead, it is reshaped and used as autoprosthesis to increase the projection of the butt.

Brazilian buttock lift is a transfer of fat taken from other areas of the body to the butt. The fat cells are taken and injected through small incisions, and the procedure leaves virtually no visible scars. It is indicated for people with good skin elasticity and without surplus sagging skin. The procedure adds volume to the butt. It does not remove the excess skin.

Can buttocks be reshaped with liposuction?

Stubborn fat deposits, resistant to exercise and dieting can be effectively removed with liposuction. We often perform this procedure in combination with liposuction of the thighs for more balanced result. For more information about liposuction, please follow the link.
